Position Summary

The Shop & Facilities Specialist is a versatile, organized team member skilled in problem solving, tool use, and customer service.  As a front-line employee, the Shop & Facilities Specialist regularly interacts with customers while supporting the daily operational readiness of the makerspace by organizing and maintaining all facilities - including buildings, tools, and equipment.  With a focus on bettering people’s lives and ensuring Triumph Workshop’s programming can take place, the Shop & Facilities Coordinator is key in The Workshop’s goal to increase its community development impact.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational readiness for the Workshop by ensuring the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of tools and equipment, including, but not limited to:

    • Traditional woodworking tools

    • Welding and metal fabrication equipment

    • CNC tools - router, plasma cutter, laser cutter, waterjet, 3D printers, etc.

  • Responsible for the sourcing, selection, and evaluation of outside vendors and contractors.

  • Develop digital maintenance schedules that allow for tracking/reminders/etc.

  • Create and manage a consumables and supplies master list for Triumph Workshop.

  • Procure small tools, equipment, supplies, and consumables as needed to support programming.

  • Coordinate with team to ensure tools and spaces are prepped and required supplies/consumables are on-hand for classes and project-related events.

  • Drive organization across the space to ensure there is a home for all tools and supplies.

  • Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures for the safety and cleanliness of the Workshop.

  • Develops and leads Safety initiatives across the space, ensuring new members are aware of protocols.

  • Continually evaluate facilities to note and remedy any potential dangers.

  • Ensure members are following policies and guidelines of Triumph Workshop while using the space.

  • Serve as escalation point for members if scheduling conflicts arise.

  • Leverage expertise to serve as the lead for at least one maker-area, to include developing and teaching classes in such area.

  • Track expenses and complete expense reports.

  • Receive and put away deliveries.

  • Develop and curate content for tool pages on website.

  • Provide pictures and content for social media and email newsletter.

  • Provide tours of the facility as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Associate’s Degree or higher preferred.

  • 5+ years maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing tools and equipment.

  • 5+ years working across teams to bring projects to completion.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience (10+ combined years) in one or more "maker" disciplines, i.e., electronics/coding, digital fabrication, woodworking, welding/metal fabrication, etc. is preferred.

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Occasional stooping or kneeling may be necessary.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and telephone.

  • Specific vision abilities are required by this job due to computer work.

  • Light to moderate lifting is required.

  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
